Drawing from our 1400+ highly trained search and rescue (SAR) members, we supply a much-needed resource to support municipalities, First Nations and other agencies responding to civil emergencies.
Our specialty SAR DR responders provide the right resources, at the right time, in the right place.
Through significant wildfire and other civil emergency responses, SAR Alberta has established a network of strike teams.
These teams are composed of highly trained and equipped search and rescue responders from across the province, who are organized and prepared to swiftly deploy to any resource request during a disaster or civil emergency.
SAR DR is best utilized when called sooner rather than later. Proactively deploying these responders leads to a significantly quicker impact, rather than waiting until local emergency resources are exhausted. The coordination of these resources is facilitated by a 24/7 virtual SAR Alberta emergency coordination centre (ECC).
SAR DR member teams are located throughout the province allowing for rapid response from both local teams and the SAR Alberta Provincial Operations Group (POG). Through our 24/7 virtual ECC, we can ensure that multiple operational period resource requests are fully resourced by SAR DR members locally, regionally and provincially.
Our commitment to a culture of support, mutual respect and cooperation, coupled with extensive experience during the 2023 and 2024 wildfire seasons, means that SAR responders can quickly integrate into any existing ICS structure to provide time sensitive and appropriate assistance .
SAR DR services are a cost-effective means of ensuring public safety. Our SAR responders do not receive remuneration. However, tasking agencies are requested to provide reimbursement related to mileage, food and accommodations.
As SAR Alberta enters its third year of provincially coordinated wildfire operations and disaster response, SAR responders are able to bring their training and expertise to quickly and efficiently complete assignments with minimal supervision.
Our SAR DR responders have been provincially recognized as an unparalleled force multiplier for emergency services, police and municipalities. Due to the many roles we fill, we help agencies focus on their critical work.
